Punjab: Christian Couple Sentenced To 25-years For Touching Koran

Munir Masih and Ruqqiya Bibi are convicted on the basis of the blasphemy law. In January, they were released on bail; now they are in two separate prison facilities. Extremist fringe put pressure, and perhaps corrupted police to find the right evidence to justify the conviction.

A court in Kasur district, Punjab, convicted a Christian couple, Munir Masih and Ruqqiya Bibi, to 25 years in prison. According to the Centre for Legal Aid Assistance and Settlement (CLAAS), judge Ajmal Hussein convicted the couple for touching the Qur‘an without washing their hands.

Munir Masih and Ruqqiya Bibi were released on bail last January, but were re-arrested after the judge ruled against them. The husband was locked up in Kasur’s district prison; the wife was sent to the women’s prison in Multan. Both have started serving 25 years behind bars.

CLAAS, an association that fights for the rights of the poor and marginalised, said that the couple was accused of “contaminating” the Qur‘an when they touched it “without washing their hands”.

The incident, which dates back to December 2008, unleashed the fury of Muslim extremists who put pressure on police. Unconfirmed reports suggest that extremists paid off police agents to discover “new evidence” to justify the sentence.

At the end of the police investigation, husband and wife were charged with blasphemy.

The blasphemy law is the harshest tool for religious repression available in Pakistan. It was adopted in 1986 by then dictator Zia ul-Haq to protect Islam and its prophet, Muhammad, from attacks and insults.

In fact, it is actually comprised of sections 295-B and 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code, which respectively punish with life in prison anyone who defiles, damages or desecrates a copy of the Holy Qur‘an, and imposes the death penalty on anyone who defiles the name of the Prophet Muhammad.

In the last two months, there were two more convictions against Christians in Pakistan.

On 11 January, a court in Faisalabad sentenced Imran Masih, a 26-year-old Christian man, to life imprisonment for insulting and desecrating the Koran. He was accused of deliberately burning Qur‘anic verses and an Arabic book in order “foment interfaith hatred and hurt the feelings of Muslims.”

On 25 February, a court in Karachi sentenced Qamar David, also a Christian, to life imprisonment for hurting the religious feelings of Muslims when he sent blasphemous SMS.

CLAAS announced that it was filing an appeal with the High Court in Lahore to have the 25-year sentence against Munir Masih and Ruqqiya Bibi overturned.

Minority babies set to become majority in 2010

Minorities make up nearly half the children born in the U.S., part of a historic trend in which minorities are expected to become the U.S. majority over the next 40 years. In fact, demographers say this year could be the “tipping point” when the number of babies born to minorities outnumbers that of babies born to whites.

The numbers are growing because immigration to the U.S. has boosted the number of Hispanic women in their prime childbearing years. Minorities made up 48 percent of U.S. children born in 2008, the latest census estimates available, compared to 37 percent in 1990.

“Census projections suggest America may become a minority-majority country by the middle of the century. For America’s children, the future is now,”

More white women are waiting until they are older to have children, but it is not yet known whether that will have a noticeable effect on the current trend of increasing minority newborns.

The population figures are used to distribute federal aid and redraw legislative boundaries with racial and ethnic balance, as required by federal law. “The adults among themselves sometimes forget the census is about everyone, and kids should be counted,” said Census Bureau director Robert Groves.

All that separates them is a wall – a new, white concrete wall, 150m (495ft) long, 2.2m tall. Beyond the wall stand the wattle-and-daub, mud-and-twig hovels where many Roma live here in Ostrovany, in eastern Slovakia.

“I don’t mind them really,” says Viera.

“We tolerate them pretty well actually, considering they’ve built their homes on land which doesn’t belong to them.

“But I have one rule in our relations with them: don’t do to others what you would not like done to yourself.”

She is talking about the theft of fruit, vegetables and even the metal fence posts from their gardens, which she and others blame on the Roma.

It went on for years, she says, until the local council responded to their complaints and spent 13,000 euros (£12,000) of public funds on the wall.

Muddy shacks

As a structure to keep a minority away from a majority, it has drawn parallels with an earlier wall between Roma and non-Roma in the Czech town of Usti nad Labem, and even with the Berlin Wall and Israel’s separation barrier.

But what is new in Ostrovany is that the Roma now form the majority – exactly two-thirds of the population.

Up on the main road, a troupe of Roma children, accompanied by their teachers, walk back from school, laughing and joking. Dobry den! they call in chorus. “Good day!”

“The wall does not segregate the Roma, nor does it limit their access to main roads or services,” says Cyril Revak, Mayor of Ostrovany.

He has grown wary of the stream of journalists who have come knocking at his door this winter, but softens slightly as we speak.

“The only criticism I am willing to accept, is that public money was used to protect private property. But public money is also used to help the Roma. We help some people one day, others the next.”

Down in the Roma ghetto, Petr Kaleja’s shack is the closest to the wall.

“We just woke up one morning and saw them building it,” he grumbles. “Why couldn’t they use the money to build us a decent home instead?”

His shack looks from the outside like an exhibit from a rural history museum. Sticks held together with clayey mud, without door or windows, and just a blanket over the entrance.

Inside he lives with his young wife and baby daughter. Melting snow drips steadily into a filthy bucket, through a hole in the makeshift roof.

There is an ancient television – “it actually works!” he grins – a dangling light bulb, and a battered wood-burning stove in the corner, throwing out some heat.

Loan sharks

When we first met Mr Kaleja, he was pulling a load of freshly cut wood on a sledge from a nearby privately owned forest. There is no wall around that – yet.

The family live on 170 euros a month, which Mr Kaleja’s wife gets in child benefit.

Mr Kaleja, 21, is waiting for the weather to improve, before he goes back to the capital, Bratislava, to try to get work laying pipes.

“We blame communism for a lot of things,” says Mayor Revak, “but one thing that was good in those times, was the obligation to work.

“Instead of that, today people have grown dependent on the state. All they need each month is two signatures – at the labour office, when they sign on, and at the post office, when they pick up their welfare payments.”

Then he talks about the loan sharks who afflict the Roma community – charging 100% a month.

“Everyone knows it’s happening, but no one wants to testify,” says the mayor. “And without victims, the police can’t do anything.”

Back in the Roma ghetto, the children sledge down the hill next to the wall, on every bit of cardboard, wood or plastic they can find.

The grown-ups worry about the wall. All the children worry about is the snow – melting away before that last, daredevil ride.

French Front National election poster ‘insults’ Algeria

France’s far-right Front National has upset Algeria, a former French colony, in its latest election poster denouncing “Islamism” and featuring a map of France decked in the North African country’s national flag.

French far-right party the Front National (FN) has revealed its latest election poster – a map of France decked in Algerian national colours, covered with minarets and featuring a woman whose face is hidden behind a “niqab” face veil.

“No to Islamism,” the poster screams in big black letters.

The image central to the FN’s campaign in the PACA (Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur) region, where the party’s leader, octogenarian firebrand Jean-Marie Le Pen, heads the party list in forthcoming regional elections due to begin March 14.

The posters, already widely diffused on the Internet, are due to be distributed across France.

French anti-racist group LICRA failed to get an injunction against the distribution of the posters at a Marseille Court on Monday on the technicality “that the group itself was not based in Marseille”.

Following this failure, Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci made an official complaint to the French government, demanding that its former colonial ruler, “take firm measures to prevent the symbols of foreign nations from being insulted.”

Pressure in the courts

Meanwhile, French campaign group MRAP has started proceedings at a Nanterre court (Paris) to ban the posters. The court is due to make a ruling on Friday, two days before voting in the regional elections begin.

Another anti-racist group SOS Racisme has started criminal proceedings against Le Pen, who will have to attend the criminal court in Paris on May 6.

The group said in a statement: “Under the pretext of denouncing religious extremism, Le Pen has clearly marked a wish to solicit fear and rejection of not only Muslims but also all people of Algerian origin living in France.

At a FN campaign meeting last weekend attended by thousands of party supporters, many of whom were carrying the poster, Le Pen railed against what he perceives as the “Islamist presence in France” and said mosques were “growing like mushrooms” across the country.

Primary school in Blackburn accredits barbarism

NOT PAINFUL?: Halal slaughter on a street in Pakistan. Now it has come to a primary school in Blackburn.

A SCHOOL in Blackburn has become the first state school in Britain to receive accreditation for serving Halal food.

Daisyfield Primary is the first non-Muslim school to get the certificate from the Halal Monitoring Committee which enforces strict checks on the killing, preparation, packaging and delivery of animals.

Halal is the ritual method of slaughter practised under Islam and it has been criticised by animal welfare organisations who claim it causes severe suffering to the animals as they are left to bleed to death without pre-stunning.

While campaigners point out that a cow will take up to two minutes to bleed to death under Halal, the Muslim Council of Britain argues that it provides a quick haemorrhage with no time for the animal to feel pain.

This claim has angered the Farm Animal Welfare Council which published a report that concluded the way Halal meat is produced causes severe suffering to animals. It responded “This is a major incision into the animal and to say that it doesn’t suffer is quite ridiculous.”

Daisyfield’s changeover to Halal has upset local residents. One told the local newspaper that the move will force children to eat Halal meat, while another said it was further proof of the Islamification of Britain.

Hungary makes Holocaust denial a crime

Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom has signed a law making Holocaust denial punishable by three years in prison.

The law was approved last month by Hungarian lawmakers, after more wide-ranging versions of the law had been rejected by courts for limiting free speech.

Spokesman Ferenc Kumin says President Solyom signed the bill because in his opinion the law is not unconstitutional.

Parliament had rejected an amendment put forward by the center-right opposition adding to the bill crimes by Hungary’s pro-Nazi and communist regimes.

The governing Socialist Party and Hungary’s growing Jewish community welcomed the news Wednesday.

Some 550,000 Hungarian Jews and 50,000 Gypsies were supposedly killed in the Holocaust.

Germany in chaos after powerful winter storm leaves at least 7 dead

Heavy snowfall in parts of Germany triggered a deadly avalanche and caused thousands of accidents, leaving at least seven people dead and dozens more injured, police said Sunday.

Across the southern state of Bavaria, police registered more than 2,000 accidents over the weekend, German news agency DDP reported, with at least three people dead. Police in the city of Regensburg said 46 cars were damaged in a highway pileup Saturday that left 17 people injured.

In the northeastern state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, three more people died in traffic accidents on icy roads.

An avalanche in the Bavarian Alps on Sunday killed a backcountry skier, regional police spokesman Dieter Betzold said.

The avalanche engulfed a group of four at the Grosser Traithen mountain close to the town of Oberaudorf. While three of the skiers were apparently able to dig themselves out of the snow, the group’s fourth member was found dead, Petzold said.

No details about the victim’s identity were immediately released.

The region got 15.75 inches (40 centimeter) of fresh snow over the weekend, DDP reported.

Heavy snowfall started on Friday night in parts of Germany, causing hundreds of accidents within hours. Police in western North Rhine-Westfalia said Saturday that 337 accidents had injured at least 45 people.

Obama’s Wife Compared to Tarzan’s Chimp by US CEO

Walt Baker, the CEO of the Tennessee Hospitality Association believes she resembles a chimpanzee, and he found the idea so hilarious he had to share his thoughts with his pals. He forwarded a joke racist email to 12 prominent Nashville citizens (all white males) comparing Michelle Obama to Tarzan’s chimp Cheeta, with the introductory message, “Quoting Larry the Cable Guy … I don’t care who you are, this is funny.” Hahahah, hilarious, right? Comparing African Americans to apes has long been part of dehumanizing, which suggests that people of color are less than human. And when the good ole Tennessee boy Walt Baker was first asked about the email, he dismissed any racial implications associated with its message, saying “it was in good fun.”

Baker’s Southern hospitality apparently only extends to white folks. He forwarded the offensive email on Thursday afternoon to a dozen public figures, referred to by Baker, as “a select group of friends,” including mayoral legislative aide Toby Compton and Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau president Butch Spyridon.

The email contained the following text, with an image of Michelle Obama next to a photo of a chimpanzee:

“I was at the store yesterday, and I ran into Tarzan! I asked him how it was going and if he was into anymore movies.?? He told me that he could no longer make any more movies as he had severe arthritis in both shoulders and could no longer swing from vine to tree. ??I asked how Jane was doing, he told me she was in bad shape, in a nursing home, has Alzheimer’s and no longer recognizes anyone, how sad. I asked about Boy, and he told me that Boy had gone to the big city, got hooked up with bad women, drugs, alcohol, and the only time he heard from him was if he was in trouble or needed something.? I asked about Cheeta, he beamed and said she was doing good, had married a Lawyer and now lived in the White House!!!”

Word of Baker’s crude racist email reached Metro Councilman Walter Hunt, when people started to phone him about the depiction of our African American First lady as a chimp. “It was demeaning, insulting, racist — not only to her, but to every citizen in the city of Nashville and the state of Tennessee,” said Hunt.

Throughout Friday, Baker dug in to his original sentiment that it was just a joke folks. Lighten up everyone! When contacted by the blog Pith of Nashville Scene Baker chastised reporters for trying to create a “political” issue:

Baker said he meant no offense and sent the crude email to “a select group of friends.” “If anybody wants to make a political agenda out of it, they’re wasting they’re time,” said Baker.

Baker then continued, saying that he apparently chose the Nashville dozen, recipients, because he believed they would appreciate the racist humor:

“It’s not a political statement,” Baker added. “It was done in the spirit of having some fun with some close friends. It was something that was forwarded to me, and I forwarded it to a couple of people that, quite honestly, I thought might find some humor in it like I did.”

At least one recipient didn’t share Baker’s vile racism and alerted the media. Toby Compton, said “I don’t think it’s funny — period.” And The NCVB’s Spyridon called the email “unacceptable and not representative of our organization and what we stand for.” Spyridon said he telephoned Baker and “chewed him out.” As the fallout over the crude email continued and made it to the local news channel, Spyridon released a statement condemning Baker’s email, as “appalling and unacceptable” and terminated the NCVB’s “contract with Mr. Baker’s marketing agency, Mercatus Communications.”

Appearing on News 2, Baker finally appeared contrite over his actions:

“It was wrong, my initial reaction to the story was wrong,” Baker told News 2. “It was stupid and I am alone, the responsible party in this.” “I regret my actions and I’m going to regret my actions probably forever,” he added.

Late Friday, Baker emailed an apology to the original 12 recipients containing one word: “Sorry.” Baker then sent a more carefully crafted statement of apology to the Nashville Metro Council characterizing the email as political humor:

“Thursday night I spontaneously forwarded — to a small group of people — an email that had been sent to me as political humor. As I forwarded it, I did not think or consider its implications, other than that it was political humor. I am saddened that anyone misinterpreted the sentiments behind the email. I deeply apologize to anyone who is offended by this action. I hope that those who know me realize that the message was not intended to be malicious or hurtful in any way and can find it in their hearts to forgive me.”

This is not the first time Tennessee has had problems showing blatant racism attacking our first black President Barack Obama and his family. Last June, Sherri Goforth a staffer for Tennessee State Senator Diane Black sent out a racist email, during work, which depicted President Obama, as a pair of “spook eyes.” When confronted with her racism, Goforth was only sorry that she sent the racist missive to the the “wrong list.”

And let’s not forget Former Tennessee, Republican Party Chairman Chip Saltsman, who sent out the “Barack the Magic Negro” song as a “gift” to Republican National Committee members. Saltsman’s racist ditty attacking the president of the United States is a favorite of hate talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.

The end of the road for Barack Obama?

The once mighty Detroit seems on the verge of being abandoned

Barack Obama seems unable to face up to America’s problems, writes Simon Heffer in New York.

It is a universal political truth that administrations do not begin to fragment when things are going well: it only happens when they go badly, and those who think they know better begin to attack those who manifestly do not. The descent of Barack Obama’s regime, characterised now by factionalism in the Democratic Party and talk of his being set to emulate Jimmy Carter as a one-term president, has been swift and precipitate. It was just 16 months ago that weeping men and women celebrated his victory over John McCain in the American presidential election. If they weep now, a year and six weeks into his rule, it is for different reasons.

Despite the efforts of some sections of opinion to talk the place up, America is mired in unhappiness, all the worse for the height from which Obamania has fallen. The economy remains troublesome. There is growth – a good last quarter suggested an annual rate of as high as six per cent, but that figure is probably not reliable – and the latest unemployment figures, last Friday, showed a levelling off. Yet 15 million Americans, or 9.7 per cent of the workforce, have no job. Many millions more are reduced to working part-time. Whole areas of the country, notably in the north and on the eastern seaboard, are industrial wastelands. The once mighty motor city of Detroit appears slowly to be being abandoned, becoming a Jurassic Park of the mid-20th century; unemployment among black people in Mr Obama’s own city of Chicago is estimated at between 20 and 25 per cent. One senior black politician – a Democrat and a supporter of the President – told me of the wrath in his community that a black president appeared to be unable to solve the economic problem among his own people. Cities in the east such as Newark and Baltimore now have drug-dealing as their principal commercial activity: The Wire is only just fictional.

Last Thursday the House of Representatives passed a jobs Bill, costing $15 billion, which would give tax breaks to firms hiring new staff and, through state sponsorship of construction projects, create thousands of jobs too. The Senate is trying to approve a Bill that would provide a further $150 billion of tax incentives to employers. Yet there is a sense of desperation in the Administration, a sense that nothing can be as efficacious at the moment as a sticking plaster. Edward B Montgomery, deputy labour secretary in the Clinton administration, now spends his time on day trips to decaying towns that used to have a car industry, not so much advising them on how to do something else as facilitating those communities’ access to federal funds. For a land without a welfare state, America starts to do an effective impersonation of a country with one. This massive state spending gives rise to accusations by Republicans, and people too angry even to be Republicans, that America is now controlled by “Leftists” and being turned into a socialist state.

“Obama’s big problem,” a senior Democrat told me, “is that four times as many people watch Fox News as watch CNN.” The Fox network is a remarkable cultural phenomenon which almost shocks those of us from a country where a technical rule of impartiality is applied in the broadcast media. With little rest, it pours out rage 24 hours a day: its message is of the construction of the socialist state, the hijacking of America by “progressives” who now dominate institutions, the indoctrination of children, the undermining of religion and the expropriation of public money for these nefarious projects. The public loves it, and it is manifestly stirring up political activism against Mr Obama, and also against those in the Republican Party who are not deemed conservatives. However, it is arguable whether the now-reorganising Right is half as effective in its assault on the President as some of Mr Obama’s own party are.

Mr Obama benefited in his campaign from an idiotic level of idolatry, in which most of the media participated with an astonishing suspension of cynicism. The sound of the squealing of brakes is now audible all over the American press; but the attack is being directed not at the leader himself, but at those around him. There was much unconditional love a year or so ago of Rahm Emanuel, Mr Obama’s Chief of Staff; oleaginous profiles of this Chicago political hack, a veteran of that unlovely team that polluted the Clinton White House, appeared in otherwise respectable journals, praising the combination of his religious devotion, his family-man image, his ruthless operating technique and his command of the vocabulary of profanity. Now, supporters of the President are blaming Mr Emanuel for the failure of the Obama project, not least for his inability to construct a deal on health care.

This went down badly with friends of Mr Emanuel, notably with Mr Emanuel himself. His partisans, apparently taking dictation from him, have filled newspaper columns and blogs with uplifting accounts of the Wonder of Rahm: as one of them put it, “Emanuel is the only person preventing Obama from becoming Jimmy Carter”. They attack other Obama “sycophants”, such as David Axelrod, his campaign guru, and Valerie Jarret, a long-time friend of Mrs Obama and a fixer from the office of Mayor Daley of Chicago who now manages – or tries to manage – the President’s image. These “sycophants” have, they argue, tried to keep the President above politics, letting Congress run away with the agenda, and gainsaying Mr Emanuel’s advice to Mr Obama to get tough with his internal opponents. This naïve act of manipulation has brought its own counter-counterattack, with an anti-Emanuel pundit drawing a comparison with our own Prime Minister and ridiculing the idea that Mr Obama should start bullying people too.

The root of the problem seems to be the management of expectations. The magnificent campaign created the notion that Mr Obama could walk on water. Oddly enough, he can’t. That was more Mr Axelrod’s fault than Mr Emanuel’s. And, to be fair to Mr Emanuel, any advice he has been giving the President to impose his will on Congress is probably well founded. The $783 billion stimulus package of a year ago was used to further the re-election prospects of many congressmen, not to do good for the country. America’s politics remain corrupt, populated by nonentities whose main concern once elected is to stay elected; it seems to be the same the whole world over. Even this self-interested use of the stimulus package appears to have failed, however. Every day, it seems, another Democrat congressman announces that he will not be fighting the mid-term elections scheduled for November 2. The health care Bill, apparently so humane in intent, is being “scrubbed” (to use the terminology of one Republican) by its opponents, to the joy of millions of middle Americans who see it as a means to waste more public money and entrench socialism. For the moment, this is a country vibrant with anger.

A thrashing of the Democrats in the mid-terms would not necessarily be the beginning of the end for Mr Obama: Bill Clinton was re-elected two years after the Republicans swept the House and the Senate in November 1994. But Mr Clinton was an operator in a way Mr Obama patently is not. His lack of experience, his dependence on rhetoric rather than action, his disconnection from the lives of many millions of Americans all handicap him heavily. It is not about whose advice he is taking: it is about him grasping what is wrong with America, and finding the will to put it right. That wasted first year, however, is another boulder hanging from his neck: what is wrong needs time to put right. The country’s multi-trillion dollar debt is barely being addressed; and a country engaged in costly foreign wars has a President who seems obsessed with anything but foreign policy – as a disregarded Britain is beginning to realise.

There are lessons from the stumbling of Mr Obama for our own country as we approach a general election. Vacuous promises of change are hostages to fortune if they cannot be delivered upon to improve the living conditions of a people. The slickness of campaigning that comes from a combination of heavy funding and public relations expertise does not inevitably translate into an ability to govern. There is no point a nation’s having the audacity of hope unless it also has the sophistication and the will to turn it into action. As things stand, Barack Obama and America under his leadership do not.

China Snubs Israeli Calls for Iran Sanctions

The prime minister of contract murder, Binyamin Netanyahu, was not long permitted to rejoice over the agreement to sanction Iran which he had wrested from the Russian leadership. A few days later, China made it clear that it would in no case help to carry out such sanctions. Consequently, Netanyahu believed it necessary to pay a visit to the Chinese leadership, in order to bring them on course through an Israeli word of command.

But the Chinese leadership did not even once want to see Netanyahu. So “Bibi” had to stay home. After this declaration from Beijing, Russia also wanted to follow suit and give Israel a further blow to the pit of the stomach. The Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, stated to Ria Novosti, “There is no evidence that Iran wants to manufacture atomic weapons.”

The foreign minister then made it clear once again that Russia supports Iran’s nuclear technology: “Lavrov confirmed Iran’s right to expand its nuclear program.”

With this announcement, the Russian foreign minister behaved brusquely a further time toward the U.S. government, since the misanthropic activities of the pro-Israel Hillary Clinton were delivered up to absurdity. It seems to have become noticeable everywhere in the world that Israel’s golem (the USA) is collapsing right into the dust. One recognizes especially well that this is so through Iranian self-confidence.

The ostensibly best secret service in the world allows itself to be filmed by the hotel cameras during the murder and must look on as the identities of the murderers appear worldwide in the headlines with names and photographs.

Any killer on the street would have done it more cleverly and probably would not even have been discovered. The Israelis were so certain of being able to leave Dubai unrecognized only because up to now they could commit murder worldwide, without having to fear being exposed. They never had to take security precautions, since they enjoyed absolute operational freedom in every Western country, as well as in Arab vassal nations.

Naturally, they believed that bankrupt Dubai would also leave them alone because the sheikhs needed credit from the West in order to get out of the financial calamity into which the Emirate was pushed by Wall Street. That was a fatal miscalculation.

The 65 billboards, one of which is pictured above, are simple — just that phrase, a large photo of a child’s face, and the Web site, TooManyAborted.com.

That site includes statements such as “The majority of Georgia’s abortion clinics are located in urban areas where blacks reside,” and promotes a controversial set of beliefs about birth control activist Margaret Sanger and the origins of Planned Parenthood. The site also links to a film about this issue called ‘Maafa 21 – Black Genocide in 21st Century America‘.

In a New York Times story about the billboards, Catherine Davis of Georgia Right to Life — one of the sponsors of the billboard campaign (the other is The Radiance Foundation) — explained the ads by saying that, “The impact of abortion has become so great that it has begun to impact [the] fertility rate” in the black community.

The idea that abortion clinics are specifically “targeting” pregnant black women is not new. A 2001 paper from the New York University History Department titled “Birth Control or Race Control? Sanger and the Negro Project,” describes efforts by the Birth Control Federation of America (which later became Planned Parenthood) to provide contraceptives to the black community as “constructed in terms and with perceptions that today smack of racism.”

Loretta Ross, the executive director of Atlanta’s SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Health Collective offers another theory. “The reason we have so many Planned Parenthoods in the black community is because leaders in the black community in the ’20s and ’30s went to Margaret Sanger and asked for them,” Ross told the Times. “Controlling our fertility was part of our uplift out of poverty strategy, and it still works.”

Although data from the Centers for Disease Control, as reported by the Times, shows that more than 50 percent of the Georgia abortion procedures were indeed performed on black women, “there was little evidence that abortions had made black children unusually endangered.” The same CDC data shows that “the fertility rate…among black women remains higher than the national average” according to the newspaper.

By injecting race into the conversation about abortion, the campaign is garnering attention for the groups that are sponsoring it as well. The National Abortion Rights Action League gives Georgia a ‘D’ for the state’s lack of access to abortions, stating that “92 percent of Georgia counties have no abortion provider.”

On its Web site, Georgia Right To Life says that they are “proud” of that grade, adding that they are “working toward getting an ‘F’!”

Their message is not even correct! There is no such thing as a “black species”… by “black species” they were sureley refering to the “black race” which goes by its scientific name as the “negroid race“. As for the term “species”, a species is a family or a group of creatures (in our case humans) who are related by different. So the human species is the father of all human races.
