US Conservative Judaism Affirms Ban on Jewish-Gentile Marriage

The Rabbinical Assembly of America—part of the international association of Conservative Judaism rabbis—has officially re-confirmed its ban on Jew-Gentile marriage, saying that intermarriage is a threat to Jewish identity—while at the same time forming part of a larger Jewish lobby which routinely attacks any European attempt to protect racial identity as “Nazism.”

The Rabbinical Assembly (RA) represents all rabbis ordained by Jewish Theological Seminary of America, the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at the American Jewish University (California), the Seminario Rabínico Latinoamericano (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and The Schechter Rabbinical Seminary (Jerusalem, Israel).

The majority of RA members serve in the United States and Canada, while more than ten percent of its rabbis serve in Israel and many of its rabbis serve in Latin America, in the countries of Europe, Australia, and Africa.

According to the new statement released by the RA on October 16, 2017, titled “Conservative/Masorti Judaism, Covenantal Love, & Responsibility,” Judaism “survives as a communal system, worldwide and across generations, by changing as little as possible as late as possible, modifying it only when necessary and only when there isn’t already a solution within the system of halakhah (Jewish law).”

Therefore, the document says, “Honoring the integrity of both partners in a wedding, and for the sake of deepening faithful Jewish living, rabbinic officiation at weddings is restricted to a marriage between two Jews.”

Conservative rabbis are prohibited from officiating at or even attending intermarriages; failure to heed the ban is one of three ways a Conservative rabbi can be expelled from the Rabbinical Assembly. The other two are performing a conversion that violates Jewish law and performing a wedding of someone who was married but did not have a Jewish divorce.

The Conservative Judaism ban on intermarriages is nothing new, as is a re-affirmation of the position taken by the Rabbinical Assembly in 1972, when the association of Conservative rabbis adopted a paper prohibiting interfaith marriage.

An article in the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (news of the re-affirmed ban on Jew-Gentile marriages was deliberately blacked out in the Jewish-lobby controlled media directed at non-Jews) said that the “Conservative movement will maintain its ban on rabbis performing interfaith marriages” in letter “published this week and addressed to the movement’s clergy, educators and leaders, follows a summer when a few prominent Conservative rabbis announced that they would begin officiating at intermarriages.

The letter, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) assured its readers, “does not represent a change in the movement’s policy or practice of Jewish law.”

The letter was written by Rabbi Bradley Artson, dean of the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles, and co-signed by Arnold Eisen, the chancellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary; Rabbi Julie Schonfeld, CEO of the Conservative Rabbinical Seminary; and Rabbi Steven Wernick, CEO of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

Rabbis who break this law are routinely expelled from Judaism. The JTA article said that “Last December, Rabbi Seymour Rosenbloom of Philadelphia was expelled from the Rabbinical Assembly umbrella group for performing intermarriages.”

According to a Pew Research Center study, 18 percent of American Jews consider themselves Conservative, and a further 10 percent consider themselves Orthodox. About 35 percent consider themselves Reform, and another 30 percent has having no denomination.

Orthodox Judaism, like Conservative Judaism, also outlaws marriage between Jews and Gentiles. Orthodox Judaism is the fastest growing segment of American Jewry, according to the Pew Research Center, and their population spread is also much younger. In the “grandparent” generation, those aged 56–73, only 5 percent are Orthodox. In the “parent” generation, aged 28–45, 15 percent are Orthodox. In the “child” generation, aged 0–17, 27 percent are being raised in Orthodox homes.

In other words, the Pew Center Research found, over the course of 3 generations, the percentage of Orthodox among Jews in America has more than quintupled – from 5 percent to 27 percent.

“Furthermore, the influence of Orthodox Jews in America on the character of Jewish life goes well beyond their mushrooming numbers,” the Pew Center added. “69 percent of Orthodox Jews are members of a congregation vs 31 percent for Jews in America overall. 92 percent of the Orthodox contribute money to Jewish causes, vs 56 percent of Jews overall.”

“When it comes to Israel, 91 percent of Orthodox Jews say they are somewhat or very attached to Israel vs 69 percent overall among Jews. 77 percent of Orthodox Jews have been to Israel, vs just 43 percent of Jews overall.”

The ban on marriages between Jews and non-Jews is, as the Orthodox and Conservative Jews assert, a guaranteed way of preserving Jewish identity, and no-one should have any problem with any race or group which seeks to preserve its identity, culture, traditions, and genetic make-up in such a fashion.

However, these same Jewish groups are the first to attack and slander any European group, party, activist or individual who might want to assert that same right for their group.

Conversely put: would the Jewish lobby controlled media be silent if the majority of Christian Churches in America announced a ban on Christians marrying Jews? Or whites marrying blacks?

This same media which has completely censored news of the Jewish ban on intermarriage, would be shouting “racism” and “Nazism” from the rooftops if any Christian Church, anywhere, announced such a ban.

Once again it is apparent that the Jewish lobby—and its controlled media—applies one rule to Jews, and another rule to Gentiles.
