UN, EU aim to prevent biological, nuclear disasters

Officials from the United Nations and the European Union have launched a program in order to prevent future biological and nuclear disasters, Press TV reports.

A press statement on Friday said that the Centers for Excellence (CoE) Initiative is designed to alleviate the risks of crimes related to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear disasters (CBRN) by “promoting cooperation, coordination, and coherent national and regional CBRN policies.”

EU Policy Coordinator for CBRN issues Bruno Dupre said the main objectives for the centers in each region are to share ideas to attain the best emergency responses to hazardous material alerts.

“What we are trying to do is to make sure that they have a better understanding of what are the risks and threats in a region that we can talk and exchange ideas,” Dupre said.

Meanwhile, collecting unaccounted chemical weapons is not the main reason for the CoE.

The question now remains with those countries such as the United States, which are manufacturing chemical weapons.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the US is the world’s top arms exporter. EU member states, including the UK, France, and Germany are also in the top five.

It sounds like EU and UN want control to START Bio-Warfare themselves since they would have all control.
