Iran Airs Footage of Downed US Drone

submit to reddit

Iran has released video footage of the most advanced US reconnaissance drone which was downed by the Iranian Army in the eastern part of the Islamic Republic earlier this week.

On Sunday December 4, the Iranian Army’s electronic warfare unit downed with minimum damage the US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft which was flying over the Iranian city of Kashmar, some 140 miles (225km) from the Afghan border.

The aircraft had crossed into Iran’s airspace over the border with neighboring Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Iran has announced that it intends to carry out reverse engineering on the captured RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft, which is also known as the Beast of Kandahar, and is similar in design to a US Air Force B-2 stealth bomber.

On Tuesday, two US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the drone had been part of a CIA reconnaissance mission, involving the United State’s intelligence community stationed in Afghanistan.

They claimed the reconnaissance capability of the RQ-170 Sentinel drone enabled it to gather information from inside Iran by flying along Afghanistan’s border with the Islamic Republic.

The RQ-170 is designed and developed by the American company, Lockheed Martin.

A commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Thursday that the aircraft, equipped with highly advanced surveillance systems, electronic communication, and radar systems, had fallen into the trap of Iran’s armed forces.

Iran has said that the US drone spy mission was a “hostile act”, adding that it will complain to the United Nations over the violation of its air sovereignty by the intelligence gathering aircraft.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has also summoned the Swiss ambassador to Tehran to protest the recent violation of the Islamic Republic’s airspace by the US spy drone.

The United States has admitted that the unmanned stealth drone was part of a surveillance program for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

I Guess everyone needs to get their gun cleaning kits out along with a good supply of ammunition and survival gear. If you don’t own some guns then I recommend you go buy some even if you have to sell some stuff.

    valid point chris.
“trust in the Lord, but keep your shotgun ready”

Listen If you trust in God you have nothing to worry about. No guns or anyother thing needed.

I’m not sure what lodging a complaint with the US’ lapdog the UN will achieve.

It’s hard to feel sympathy for the US military for losing their spy drone. Iran seems to have pricked US belief in its own invincibility.

    Only during obama’s watch.

I dont know if anyone else can see this but “they” wanted them to recover this drone and retaliate so “they” can have a real reason to them wipe out this time, with the support of the American people, cause we woke up to the bs we where being fed about 9/11 WMDs and more.

I think if the Russians and Chinese will work together, they will be able to come out with a system to take over control of the unmanned drones. Suddenly, the drones become useless and can be used to attack American targets. Or they can be rendered useless by radio-signals of the right frequency.

Do you really think the cia would mess up this bad by mistake? This has such a bigger meaning than anyone notices, that drone is a huge trick, I bet they loaded that drone with all the tech that we don’t even use so iran will think they have a advantage and when they retaliate they will get crushed.

Flood the air with a dead carrier that drowns out the control signal and the drone will likely be forced into a default mode at the very least. For those who don’t quite understand what dead carrier means, imagine trying to talk to a person in a crowd, but there is too much noise to be understood. Taking control is a whole other issue, but as far as breaking the comm link, it doesn’t matter how good your encryption and channel hopping system is. If the plane can’t receive instructions, it would be forced into some sort of default and likely either try and return to base or self destruct. If you can jam it’s GPS that’ll pose other problems for it. My point is that it doesn’t take a genius or super advanced technology to gum up the works of anything remotely controlled. If I can think up and build something like this, then it’s safe to say that governments have a hundred people that are 20 times smarter and far more educated than me. Iran isn’t in this fight alone, btw. They have some major heavyweights in their corner. Either way, they are a sovereign country and it’s no one’s business what goes on inside their country. My heart goes out to all to the families and soldiers on both sides who think they are dying for a good cause. I hope enough people wake up and figure out what’s really going on here before something really terrible happens.

It never went in “dead carrier” mode cause obama said he CHOOSE not to self destruct cause of the “inocent lifes” at risk, yeah thats better than war I guess.
