Senior Iranian military officials repeated their warnings to the US and Israel against an invasion of the Islamic Republic, saying that enemies cannot imagine the extent of Iran’s response as they are unaware of the level and limits of the power of the Iranian armed forces.
“Enemies do not know where our power ends,” Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Brigadier General Hossein Salami told reporters on the sidelines of a Civil Defense gathering in Tehran on Monday.
Earlier the General told the gathering that Iran is growing increasingly powerful, “while the US is losing all its geopolitical points of reliance and all its structured and constructed models are falling apart”.
“The influence and clout of the Islamic power is pushing back and washing off the domain of the influence of the arrogant powers (i.e. the US and its European allies),” he added.
The General further added that Iran’s notions and ideas are spreading throughout the region and the world fast and this means victory and growing power for the Islamic Republic.
“The Islamic Revolution is moving ahead hopefully and conquering new ruling systems,” he stated.
The US and Israel started intensifying their war rhetoric against Iran in mid October, but after they saw Iran’s firm response, both Washington and Tel Aviv withdrew from their previous stances.
US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta had earlier this month underlined Iran’s major role in global economy, and said the US would not dare to attack Iran since the move would devastate, not just the US, but the world economy.
“There are going to be economic consequences to that (an Iran strike), that could impact not just on our economy but the world economy,” Panetta told reporters traveling with him to Canada, where he had attended a security forum and hold bilateral talks with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
Analysts believe that the statements by the US defense secretary prove that the US and Israel have intensified war rhetoric against Iran since almost two months ago in a bid to convince other countries, specially Russia and China, to accept harsh diplomatic actions, including sanctions against Iran, to avoid a US and Israeli strike on Tehran.
On November 10, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei warned enemies about Iran’s tough response to any aggression or even threat, stressing that the country would respond with full force to any attack.
“Iran is not a nation to sit still and just observe threats from fragile materialist powers which are being eaten by worms from inside,” Ayatollah Khamenei told students at a Tehran military college.
“Anyone who harbors any thought of invading the Islamic Republic of Iran – or even if the thought crosses their mind – should be prepared to receive strong blows and the steel fists of the military, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and the Basij (volunteer) force, backed by the entire Iranian nation,” he said.
“Iran will respond with full force to any aggression or even threats in a way that will demolish the aggressors from within,” he added.
Iranian officials and commanders have warned that any enemy moves, even the slightest aggressions, against the Islamic Republic would be reciprocated with a destructive response and will endanger the US interests all around the world and its 32 military bases in the region.
Iran has also warned it could close the strategic Strait of Hormoz if it became the target of a military attack over its nuclear program. Strait of Hormoz, the entrance to the strategic Persian Gulf waterway, is a major oil shipping route.
