Toxic Oil Spill Rains Warned Could Destroy North America

A dire report prepared for President Medvedev by Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources is warning today that the British Petroleum (BP) oil and gas leak in the Gulf of Mexico is about to become the worst environmental catastrophe in all of human history threatening the entire eastern half of the North American continent with “total destruction”.

Russian scientists are basing their apocalyptic destruction assessment due to BP’s use of millions of gallons of the chemical dispersal agent known as Corexit 9500 which is being pumped directly into the leak of this wellhead over a mile under the Gulf of Mexico waters and designed, this report says, to keep hidden from the American public the full, and tragic, extent of this leak that is now estimated to be over 2.9 million gallons a day.

The dispersal agent Corexit 9500 is a solvent originally developed by Exxon and now manufactured by the Nalco Holding Company of Naperville, Illinois that is four times more toxic than oil (oil is toxic at 11 ppm (parts per million), Corexit 9500 at only 2.61ppm).  In a report written by Anita George-Ares and James R. Clark for Exxon Biomedical Sciences, Inc. titled “Acute Aquatic Toxicity of Three Corexit Products: An Overview” Corexit 9500 was found to be one of the most toxic dispersal agents ever developed. Even worse, according to this report, with higher water temperatures, like those now occurring in the Gulf of Mexico, its toxicity grows.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in discovering BP’s use of this dangerous dispersal agent ordered BP to stop using it, but BP refused stating that their only alternative to Corexit 9500 was an even more dangerous dispersal agent known as Sea Brat 4.

The main differences between Corexit 9500 and Sea Brat 4 lie in how long these dangerous chemicals take to degrade into their constituent organic compounds, which for Corexit 9500 is 28 days.  Sea Brat 4, on the other hand, degrades into an organic chemical called Nonylphenol that is toxic to aquatic life and can persist in the environment for years.

A greater danger involving Corexit 9500, and as outlined by Russian scientists in this report, is that with its 2.61ppm toxicity level, and when combined with the heating Gulf of Mexico waters, its molecules will be able to “phase transition” from their present liquid to a gaseous state allowing them to be absorbed into clouds and allowing their release as “toxic rain” upon all of Eastern North America.

Even worse, should a Katrina like tropical hurricane form in the Gulf of Mexico while tens of millions of gallons of Corexit 9500 are sitting on, or near, its surface the resulting “toxic rain” falling upon the North American continent could “theoretically” destroy all microbial life to any depth it reaches resulting in an “unimaginable environmental catastrophe” destroying all life forms from the “bottom of the evolutionary chart to the top”.

Note: For molecules of a liquid to evaporate, they must be located near the surface, be moving in the proper direction, and have sufficient kinetic energy to overcome liquid-phase intermolecular forces. Only a small proportion of the molecules meet these criteria, so the rate of evaporation is limited. Since the kinetic energy of a molecule is proportional to its temperature, evaporation proceeds more quickly at higher temperatures.

As over 50 miles of the US State of Louisiana’s coastline has already been destroyed by this spill, American scientists are warning that the damage may be impossible to repair, and as we can read as reported by the Associated Press News Service:

“The gooey oil washing into the maze of marshes along the Gulf Coast could prove impossible to remove, leaving a toxic stew lethal to fish and wildlife, government officials and independent scientists said. Officials are considering some drastic and risky solutions: They could set the wetlands on fire or flood areas in hopes of floating out the oil. They warn an aggressive cleanup could ruin the marshes and do more harm than good.”

And to understand the full import of this catastrophe it must be remembered that this disaster is occurring in what is described as the “biologically richest waters in America” with the greatest amount of oil and toxic Corexit 9500 set to come ashore in the coming days and weeks to destroy it completely for decades to come.

Reports are also coming from the United States that their government is secretly preparing to evacuate tens-of-millions of their citizens from their Gulf of Mexico States should the most dire of these scientific warnings start to come true.

To the greatest lesson to be learned by these Americans is that their government-oil industry cabal has been just as destructive to them as their government-banking one, both of which have done more to destroy the United States these past couple of years than any foreign enemy could dare dream was possible.

But to their greatest enemy the Americans need look no further than their nearest mirror as they are the ones who allowed these monsters to rule over them in the first place.

Just because kalabis is mad doesn’t mean he’s not right. Everything he said is spot on. The USA is being destroyed by design, within, from the mega-coporations and the military industrial congressional pharmaceutical banking complex. And what is are we Americans doing about it? From what I can see, well I don’t see anything, which means Americans aren’t doing anything. I could go on but what’s the point. If you haven’t figured the big picture out for yourself by now, there is no one who can help you, this goes for all of us around the world. WAKE UP!!

Hey if you think you did nothing to contribute to this mess you’re messed in the head. It’s not like we don’t know that cars are bad for the air and if you want to blame this mess on BP and the oil spill you’re a fool. The people of america who NEED the oil to live and get through everyday of their lives are the ones who made the oil spill. It doesn’t matter how unsafe the oil rig was, YOU are the one who the oil is dug up for. YOU are the reason YOU are going to suffer now.. Karma’s a bitch. It’s time for the ugly to pay up and for the good to shine. REVOLUTION.

Yes, the rig was drilled to serve the demand, but the protection system was avoided to serve the bottom line. This type of accident could not have happened in Brazil or Norway, who mandate an addtional level of blowout prevention. However, this would have cost BP an additional $500,000.

As you state, Mike, it was all about the Bottom Line Financially. People, Pay Attention, with Big Corporations and the Republicans, it is always about the Bottom Line…Keep this in Mind when you vote on November 2…People in California vote Jerry Brown for Governor and Barbara Boxer for Senator…These Corporate Executives are running for office in order to eliminate the Capital Gains Tax for their Wealthy Friends…Amazing how the only time Meg Whitman has registered to vote is to vote for herself.

Lets see, BP totally ignores common sense and doesn’t use industry standards for safety–even after the spill {NO OSHA approved Safety Gear for cleanup crews!} Threatens to fire anyone caught with a respirator because it might make them look bad, and you want to blame all this on America’s oil consumption. Back up Jack. Take a look at the Mineral Manangement Service under the Dept of Interior. We Americans were sold down the river by revolving door politics and the likes of the Dick-Bush crew. They set us all up by deregulating the industry in a series of coke fueled sex parties and junkets. So pull your head out and stop blaming people who have to drive because of urban sprawl that was encouraged by the oil industry pre-Carter years. You want to work, and eat–better have a car. Its a fact of life in most of America. We have poor public transportation in all but the largest cities like NYC or Portland or Chicago. When Americans are starving because of toxic rain and after they nuke the well head in the Gulf Rift-Fault region that will trigger the New Madrid, I say we eat Tony Hayworth First.

    Maria,
It is never too late to start organizing for action.

“In June 1776, as Thomas Jefferson composed a draft of the Declaration of Independence from a second floor parlor of a bricklayer’s house in Philadelphia, the largest invasion force in British military history was headed for New York Harbor. By the time the last of the fifty-six signers had affixed their names to the final, edited document months later, an invading force of British soldiers had landed at Staten Island, the British had taken New York City…

“The fifty-four men who composed the First Continental Congress represented different interests, religions, and regions; they held conflicting opinions as to how best restore their rights. Most did not know each other; some did not like each other. With no history of successful cooperation, they struggled to overcome their differences and, without any way of knowing if the future held success or nooses for them all, they started down a long and perilous road toward independence.”

Correction: we don’t NEED to use fossil fuels as a source of energy or use for our daily consumption. We live in an age where science and technology has evolved faster than we do. Solar, wind, waves, even garbage can be transformed into heat or mechanical energy and systems can be adapted for these alternatives.

As a country, WE put our personal demands and desire of lifestyle before anything else and WE need a wake up call.

There is a HUGE difference between what you need to survive and what you want to live comfortably. It’s BP’s fault, along with every passed up opportunity America collectively had to change our wasteful lifestyle.

The effects we’re seeing on our planet have been cause by generations worth of damage, so when are we going to stop complaining and actually change our lifestyle?

I find the attitude expressed here, by in large, a little sanctimonious. First of all, the USA doesn’t need to import oil other than from Canada – we are in a conglomerate of countries, specifically Britain and Japan, and they need to import oil. So, we support them in their efforts by keeping the supply safe. Safety is the issue here and it was not safe because of BP’s greed. This attitude to the US – forgive me for asking but, do you then, blame starvation in Africa and AIDS on the people or do you skip that and just help them? What about the economic issues to Europe from Chernobyl? You don’t live in a vacuum – you’re just as greedy and irresponsible as the rest of us. So drop sanctimonious crap, get your butt in gear, and figure out how YOU’RE going to get off fossil fuels before you point the finger. And by the way, if you think this Gulf disaster is going to stop at the gulf, your foolish. That loop current is going to drop it right on your doorstep.

God forbid they would be forced to pay some workers to clean it all off the shore. Talk about fixing the unemployment problem. Soon enough all those oil rich jack-holes are going to find out that you cant eat or drink money. It’s all about profit margins and cost benifits to the oil industry and it has been since that baseball playing president of ours with his crew of money hunger ill tempered trigger happy queer haters were in office. Now we have this suave little bastard that is hell-bent on change. Change of everything the country once stood for, big change. All the people of the gulf that spent there lives fishing the sea and running the beach will have to be forced by men with guns to leave there once o’ so beautiful beaches just in an attempt to survive a toxic benzene corexit soup of a storm. Just as long as Tony Howard can have his way with all the ass-holes of little boys he can buy I suppose. I wish that the foreigners (and some ‘Americans’) that want to b*tch at the entire populace of America would pull their heads out of their as*es before they begin operating their keyboards…

Our American ‘leaders’ ceased to represent their constituents DECADES ago! For that period of time, depending on their political parties, they have actually represented only rich individuals, large non-profit organizations, and labor unions (Democrats), and/or the rich and big business (Republicans).

One of the biggest businesses involved is the mainstream media. With this combination, there has not even been a CHANCE for the American public to make informed decisions about who to vote for. Therefore, all of these ‘problems’ are NOT the fault of the ‘little guys’. All of the blame needs to be placed squarely upon the political machine, and those entities that it represents.

BP knew that their B.O.P. had a P.O.D. that had failed and was leaking. Fixing it would have stopped ‘production’ and cost a LOT of money. The Bush, Clinton, Bush II, and Obama Administrations had ALL been systematically dismantling regulation on the oil industry. (Thanks to generous donations from BP and others- See how that works?)

Since 20 April, 2010, BP and the American government have been doing EVERYTHING in their power, not to fix the problem, but to cover up the truth and the extent of the damage. (I think that’s because they understand very clearly that there is no fix for it.)

To the best of my knowledge, the planet we call “Earth”, has just been destroyed. However, as with something like cancer, it takes a while for the entire system to collapse. The poisoned aquatic life is the first step, but will take several years before all of the oceans are wrecked.

The impact on the Eastern US will be significantly quicker. This first storm will be quite an eye-opener! It’ll pick up a bunch of oil and Corexit (Hell of a name, eh?) and will spread it over millions (billions?) of acres of land. All of the plant and animal life will be damaged to some extent.
I’m gonna guess that the harvest and the hunt will not be really good this year in these areas…

I really hope that I am wrong, but only time will tell…
